At the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre, we believe all children should be equipped with a toolkit filled with; healthy ways to express themselves, mechanisms to cope with life adversities as well as methods to communicate their complex emotions. Named in memory of Cathy Collins, a long-time supporter and volunteer of the Centre, Cathy’s Kids (and Get Crafty) is a 10-week trauma informed recreational program for children aged 7 to 11 where children will learn to express themselves through various art modalities including:
- Painting Projects
- Stained Glass Artwork
- & Various Crafts
Through our 2-hour sessions, children will gain experience working with different art modalities through creative workshops that work to foster resiliency, self-esteem and a sense of personal power and purpose. Cathy’s Kids takes place Monday nights from 6 to 8pm, and get Crafty on Saturday mornings from 10 to 12pm, at the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara. The program is open to any youth between the ages of 7-11 that have been through investigations with FACS or have experience of abuse or trauma.
