ABOUT THE ARTISTS
SAM ROBERTS AND Dave NUGENT
Canadian Rock Legend and Six-time Juno Award Winner Sam Roberts, with long-time collaborator Dave Nugent, will join us this year at the BraveHearts Gala, benefitting the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre.
Samās groundbreaking The Inhuman Condition was released in 2002 and became the best-selling independent EP in Canadian history. In 2003 he released his first full-length album, We Were Born in a Flame. The Certified Double-Platinum selling album was a huge hit in Canada and won the Juno Awards for Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year. He continued to release hit albums for the remainder of the decade: Platinum-certified Chemical City in 2006 and Gold-certified Love at the End of the World in 2008. Each album also won the Juno for Rock Album of the Year.
From āDonāt Walk Away Eileen,ā to āWeāre All In This Togetherā and āAfterlife,ā Samās music continues to deliver a legacy of hit singles to take over the airwaves. The bandās legendary live show has seen them performing around the world including Australia, Japan, extensive tours of Europe and North America and brought them to festivals such as Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and Bumbershoot, and alongside giants like the Rolling Stones and AC/DC.
JOEL PLASKETT
For over three decades, Joel Plaskett has proven himself a spinning wheel of reinvention. The Nova Scotia songwriter’s eclectic body of work reveals a restless and playful spirit, always transforming and expanding.
Coast-to-coast and the world ’round, Joel has rocked crowds at clubs, festivals and grand old theatres with longtime Emergency bandmates Dave Marsh and Chris Pennell as well as drawn audiences close with intimate acoustic shows, both solo and with his father, Bill. Then there are the special events that have really allowed Joel to reach the rafters, like headlining Torontoās Massey Hall with everyone in tow, playing the NAC in Ottawa backed by the national orchestra, and warming up huge stages for artists like The Tragically Hip and Paul McCartney.
Joel and the Emergency have also been roundly celebrated within the music industry for their work, racking up awards and nominations from the JUNOs, the Polaris Music Prize, the East Coast Music Awards, Music Nova Scotia, and numerous others.
We are proud to welcome Joel to the stage at this yearās BraveHearts Gala, in support of the kids who use our services at the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara.
