In memory of Cathy Collins, a long-time supporter and volunteer of the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara, we have established a free 12 week arts and education group for pre-teens (boys & girls) ages 9-11 who have experienced abuse. Participants must have completed their investigation process with Family and Children’s Services Niagara and/or Niagara Regional Police Service.
Participants will focus on using creativity as a vehicle to enhance resilience in response to the experience of child abuse. It is intended to help youth better understand themselves & learn the power of creative self-expression.*
Cathy’s Kids will be held at The Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara Centre, 8 Forster St, St. Catharines. Participants of this program will cover the following topics: age-appropriate information on defining abuse, managing emotions, risky behaviour, understanding the self, impact of social media, family and friend challenges, building self-esteem and resiliency. This curriculum was developed with Foster Festival, our partner and facilitator of visiting artists.
